Barbara Thomas, RN
Director of Electrophysiology Services
Barbara has 25 years of nursing experience, with 15 specifically focused on electrophysiology. While at the Cleveland Clinic, she worked closely with Dr. Natale, first as an EP nurse and later in a nurse manager position. In 2008, she was appointed to the directorship at St. David's Medical Center, where she works closely with the electrophysiologists and nursing staff in the world-class EP department. She has been instrumental in establishing the Arrhythmia Center at TCAI. Her efforts have resulted in the formation of a leading-edge patient education resource for TCAI patients. She has assembled a team of specialized electrophysiology nurses who help patients before, during and after their treatments.
Since 2007 her strong interest in the continuous medical education of nurses in the field of cardiac electrophysiology has made her play a major role as co-director of the program for allied professionals at Venice Arrhythmia, the most attended European international meeting.
Barbara's initial inspiration to pursue a career in EP stems from her mother, who had undiagnosed atrial fibrillation that resulted in a stroke at age 45. Barbara is passionate about EP services, and enjoys the excitement and challenge of this ever-changing field.
Barbara is an active member of Heart Rhythm Society and has served in the past on the HRS Membership and Coding Committee.
